The Pendleton Area Saddle Club was formed in 1989 by a group of horse lovers who wanted to meet others who shared an interest in horses and to promote horseback riding as a family sport through organized activities. Through the years, the purpose of the Club has grown to include promoting and practicing trail stewardship through education and related projects and to address public land access issues which affect horse-related activities.

Currently, the Club has approximately 70 memberships - both individual and family. Members participate in a variety of planned activities each year ranging from day and/or overnight trail rides, training clinics, farm visits, roadside/trail clean-ups, educational meetings, and a Special Riders' Day which is designed to provide children and/or adults with disabilities the opportunity to experience horseback riding in a controlled environment. Revenue to support Club activities is generated through an annual Hunter/Jumper - Carolina Horse Show Association show and membership dues.
